CoVID-19 cases now at 9,684; recoveries up to 1,408

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 199 new CoVID-19 cases in the country, bringing the tally to 9,684. The death toll has now reached 637 as 14 more patients expired while total recoveries is now at 1,408 after 93 patients recovered.

There are currently 7,639 active cases. The DOH said majority of the cases recorded today are from NCR. 41 provinces had zero cases of CoVID-19 in the past two weeks.

DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said the number of healthcare workers who contracted the virus has decreased in the past few days.

Meanwhile, the department continues to expand the country’s testing capacity. A total of 23 laboratories have been certified as CoVID-19 testing centers while 58 more facilities are undergoing the accreditation process.

Vergeire said all the CoVID-19 testing centers have already reached the 8,000 tests per day target, and are now heading toward the new target of 30,000 daily tests by month’s end.

The DOH also thanked Japan after it expressed the intention to send free supplies of anti-flu drug Avigan.
