PRRD urges Filipinos to stay resilient, anticipates COVID-19 vaccine by 2021

President Rodrigo Duterte urges Filipinos to stay resilient for he is confident that several countries will discover a vaccine for the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) soon.

According to the Chief Executive, he is preparing funds for the vaccine so the Philippines can immediately purchase once it is found.

“Many countries are on the verge of, lumalapit na sila, malapit na sila sa vaccine (They are close to finding a vaccine). Just in case somebody else would beat Moderna to the vaccine. I think China has already won. We are just waiting for the announcement. A pharmaceutical called Moderna… I think I heard South Africa or… I don’t know what is the legal residence of this corporation. But mayroon na silang tests (they have tests)… showing positive results. Mayroon ng vaccine but ang problema (There is a vaccine but the problem is) it will be ready, according to them, by 2021.“

The President stated that it is important to follow health protocols set by the government in preventing the further spread of the virus until a vaccine is found. He will not think twice to restore the restrictions once the number of COVID-19 cases spikes.

“Remember this: the loosening of the restriction does not mean wala na ang COVID (that COVID is gone). If the contamination will be as fast as before and it will continue to infect our ‘yung nakalabas na (people who are allowed to go out), then we’ll have to just go back to the original, the program.” – Report from Mela Lesmoras
