House passes ‘Anti-Discrimination’ bill

The House of Representatives has passed House Bill 6817 or the “Anti-Discrimination” bill that aims to prohibit discrimination of health workers, Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The bill which has been passed with 204 affirmative votes, includes the prohibition of discrimination of confirmed COVID-19 patients, suspects, probable, those who already recovered, responders, service workers and repatriated OFWs.

The punishment for those who will be found guilty of harassment or violence against the said individuals may be imprisoned for 1 to 10 years and be fined with not less than Php 200,000. Those who will be found guilty of discrimination may be imprisoned for 6 months to 5 years and may be fined with not less than Php 50,000.
