2 men struck by lightning in Cebu

CEBU CITY — Two workers in a church undergoing renovation were reportedly electrocuted after they were hit by lightning here around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The workers were identified as Casimero Igdamin, 43, a resident of at Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City, and Gregorio Demape, 32, of Barangay Mohon, Talisay City, both working at the facade of Mount Carmel Church located on the corner of Leon Kilat and Magallanes Streets.

Initial investigation said Igdamin and Demape were painting the image of Saint Mary right above the door of the church when suddenly a bolt of lightning struck them.

The lightning also caused a temporary blackout in the area, while the incident caused heavy traffic as people flocked to the church to satisfy their curiosity and the Carbon Police Station and Bureau of Fire Protection were attending to the victims.

PO3 Raydala Sardual, Carbon Police desk officer, said Igdamin and Demape were still conscious when they were brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment and recuperation. (USJR intern Levirose Caballero/PNA)
