Indoor sports, fitness facilities to partially open in MGCQ areas

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced on Tuesday additional industries allowed to open under the modified general community quarantine.

“Outdoor and indoor sports facilities will now be allowed to operate. Ibig sabihin po ‘yong mga sports activities indoors, as long as noncontact ay papayagan na po, ia-allow na po (Outdoor and indoor sports facilities will now be allowed to operate as long as they are noncontact),” DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said.

Also allowed in 50 percent capacity under MGCQ are personal care services such as massage, facial care, pet grooming services, cinemas, theaters, karaoke, children playrooms, library, museums and cultural centers, travel agencies, and tourists destinations. Computer shops have also been allowed but are limited for school use and education.

Education support establishments such as testing centers, tutorial, review centers, language, driving, dance, acting voice school have also been permitted to partially operate.

“Nakita naman natin na moving from MECQ to MGCQ ay hindi naman lumala, even po ang positivity rate (We have seen during the transition from MECQ to MGCQ that it has not gotten worse, even the positivity rate),” Lopez said.

The trade secretary emphasized that health protocols must be observed with the resumption in operations of several establishments to prevent transmission. The DTI said it is currently organizing guidelines on the opening of live performances such as in theaters.

Meanwhile, DTI assured the country has sufficient supply of food and other essential products such as alcohol and masks. – Report from Cleizl Pardilla
