PCOO Sec. Martin Andanar on the Commemoration of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence

We are one with every Filipino, here and around the globe, in commemorating the anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence.

It has been a hundred and twenty-two years since our forefathers gained independence from Spanish rule. This moment in our history is a milestone which helped pave the way to our independence as a nation. A nation that enjoys its sovereignty and its capacity towards self-actualization.

Let us continue to endeavor in enriching ourselves and achieving the foundations and goals set by our forefathers of a united, secure, and prosperous nation, to ensure that their sacrifices have not been made vain.

As we collectively face our present struggle, in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic, may we find the courage to weather this health crisis and rise from the challenges it has brought despite our worries and fears.

If we work together and rise as one, we will emerge victorious from the threat of COVID-19, and become stronger from it, as we look toward the brighter prospects that lie ahead.

May we have a solemn and meaningful observance of this very significant event in our nation’s history.

Happy Independence Day!
