ERC to issue order on refund of excess Meralco bill

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is expected to issue its order on the Meralco bill refund on Wednesday, July 8, due to the excessive rates charged to consumers during the enhanced community quarantine.

ERC Chairperson Atty. Agnes Devanadera stated that the electric company will be ordered to immediately refund the excess charges to affected consumers. The ERC also instructed Meralco to give the customer options on how to get the refund without personally going to its office. Meralco promised to boost its manpower and hasten the distribution of the refund.

The electric company has said that it is adjusting the extra charges imposed on customers who paid online.

Meanwhile, ERC mentioned that power distribution companies in other areas also spiked charges in their bills. They were ordered to explain. The ERC reminded power distribution companies on fair charges and immediate refunds to avoid having issues with the ERC. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
