DepEd: National enrollment hit 18.8M

The national enrollment for the upcoming school year has reached 18,871,245, as shown in the data of the Department of Education as of 8:00 a.m. of July 8.

Out of the current number, around 900,000 are registered under private schools. Records also showed that more than 200,000 students of private schools have transferred to public schools.

“Maraming mga bata ngayon na nasa home schooling at hindi pa kumpleto ang report natin sa mga bata na nagho-home school… (Many students are under home schooling and our report on this is not yet complete),” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said.

Meanwhile, various stakeholders presented their preparations for the upcoming opening of classes. The Department of Energy (DOE) and Meralco assured that there is enough supply of electricity. The Department of Health (DOH) will strictly implement the ‘no face mask, no entry’ policy.

By the end of July, the DepEd is set to present to Congress its concrete plans for blended learning. The department is currently printing modules for the first quarter. –
