Statement of Department of Health on August 2, 2020, 11:30PM

We, like many other countries, have experienced a resurgence in COVID-19 cases after shifting from ECQ to GCQ. Many of us tried to return to the way things were. And it has taken its toll on our healthcare system. We must reopen our lives, but it will have to be more cautiously.

The modified restrictions will give us the chance to regain the ground we lost in our fight against this deadly invader. This timeout will buy us time to (1) implement intensified community-based active case finding and management through the CODE Protocol (2) revisit and co-develop an updated strategy with the medical and public health stakeholders and (3) rally a substitution team for our fatigued health care workers. Please expect regular updates from us on these fronts.

We need our healthcare workers to take care of those who need to be cared for. So we need to take care of OUR healthcare workers – who are the backbone of our pandemic response. Let us do this by wearing masks properly all the time, making it a habit to always wash our hands, practicing physical distancing, avoiding public places, crowds, and low ventilation settings, and staying home if we do not need to go out.

Together, we can all #BIDASolusyon to this pandemic, and beat COVID-19. Together, responsibly.
