Davao City boosts security protocols after Jolo blast

Security protocols in Davao City have been tightened following the two bombing incidents in Jolo, Sulu on Monday.

Intensified measures include the checking and inspection of vehicles and motorcycles with their u-boxes, which pass through the border control points of Davao City.

“We also inspect individuals wearing scarves and hoods like dresses kagaya nitong (like this)hijab, mga abaya, or other obvious na sinusuot ng mga tao (or other outfits obviously worn by people),” TF Davao Commander Col. Consolito Yecla said.

The Davao City Police Office is already on full alert although no direct security threat from terrorist groups has been reported.

“Hinigpitan namin ngayon ang pagbabantay sa mga establisyimentong posibleng maging target at siempre ang pagiging alerto na laging pinapaalala palagi sa amin (We have tightened the monitoring of establishments which could become targets, and [we] keep alert which we are constantly reminded about),” DCPO Spokesperson PCpt. Rose Aguilar elaborated.

Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte extended her condolences to the families of slain forces and civilians in the explosion.

Security forces are urging the public not to panic and help out by reporting suspicious individuals, objects, and activities. They reminded that the inspection of vehicles and belongings in checkpoints should be voluntary.
