Pemberton to be deported after release

US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton may never set foot in the Philippines again once he is deported.

According to the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the name of Pemberton, who was convicted for killing Jennifer Laude in 2014, will be blacklisted. Under the Philippine Immigration Act, individuals who have been penalized due to a moral turpitude crime such as homicide are not permitted to enter the country.

The BI is also coordinating with the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for the transfer of Pemberton under its custody so that the deportation order that was issued on September 2015 by the BI Board of Commissioners may immediately be implemented.

However, Pemberton is still required to submit to a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance as proof that he is facing no other charges in the Philippines.

Pemberton is currently staying at the extension facility of BuCor in Camp Aguinaldo while the BuCor awaits for the written order of the absolute pardon granted to him by President Rodrigo R. Duterte. – PTV News
