DOJ charges 1st batch of PhilHealth officials

The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed charges with the Office of the Ombudsman against the first batch of officials involved in the irregularities in PhilHealth on Friday.

DOJ Undersecretary Adrian Sugay refused to name the officials to be charged. However, he disclosed that the matter is associated with the P30 billion worth of reimbursement interim mechanism.

The initial investigation of the House of Representatives unearthed that several Philhealth officials pocketed the P10.12 million allocated for the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) swab test fund. The modus involved asking the PhilHealth ID numbers of their members and simply acquire the money afterwards.

DOJ USec. Sugay clarified that charges have not yet been filed on the entire PhilHealth scandal.
