DepEd sorry for wrong math solution on DepEd TV episode

The Department of Education (DepEd) has apologized for the wrong solution to a Grade 9 math problem aired on DepEd TV that immediately drew flak on social media on Tuesday.

“Sa tingin ko po nakadulot ng kaunting kalituhan sa mga estudyanteng nakanood dahil aakalain nila na pwede palang mag-divide ng zero (I think it brought confusion to viewers, thinking that zero can be divided). We need to be very careful,” Dexter Orzal of Dexter’s Camp Math Online Tutorial Services said.

The DepEd explained that such errors are inevitable due to the short time allocated for the production of DepEd TV episodes. It somehow assured that the errors will be corrected and will not be repeated.

“Wala nang ibang mali. Ito lang ang maling nakita natin, from the 54 episodes. Kung may mga mali pa, then show us. What are the errors? We will gladly correct them. Hindi naman tayo perpekto (There are no other errors. This is the only wrong item out of the 54 episodes. If there are more, show us… We are not perfect),” DepEd USec. Alain Pascua stated.

The DepEd guaranteed a stricter process of reviewing the quality of materials to be aired. This will be challenging from its end, considering the fact that it airs 150 episodes per week.

“For 54 episodes, we have had only one mistake and this one mistake become viral. But for the 53 episodes that we made correct(ly), we did not even receive single dues from our critiques,” Pascua bewailed.

The DepEd is urging the public to inform it of other errors of its other distance learning modalities for immediate response. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
