National ID preregistration starts Oct. 12

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will begin the house-to-house preregistration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) on October 12.

The PSA, together with various members of local government and partner agencies led the PhilSys online kickoff on Friday morning.

The agency aims to register around five million individuals this year from 32 provinces including families that belong to the 40 percent households with lowest monthly income and those with low COVID-19 cases.

“Our target is 92 million despite the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. Our priority is to ensure the safety of the registrant and information officers by implementing the PhilSys registration protocol,” National Statistician USec. Dennis Mapa stated.

The registration will include house-to-house calls of enumerators to gather demographic data such as name, sex, place and date of birth, blood type, among others from October 12 to December 30,

Biometrics inputs including iris scan, finger print, and a photo will be taken in assigned registration centers from November 25 to December 30. This will be followed by the distribution of Phil ID card that can also be used through the PhilSys mobile app.

“While the registration will happen in the 32 provinces, the coordination with the LGU and the preparatory activities for the launch of other areas are ongoing. So by January, we will move to the other areas including the National Capital Region,” Mapa disclosed.

The PSA is hoping that the national ID would help more Filipinos open bank accounts for a more inclusive financial aid distribution. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio
