Pepito leaves bridges impassable in Cagayan

Some bridges were declared impassable in Cagayan Valley due to flooding and overflowing rivers brought about by tropical storm Pepito.

These include Bagunot and Abusag overflow bridges in Baggao, Cagayan; Cabagan-Sta. Maria overflow bridge and Cansan Bagutari overflow bridge in Cabagan, Isabela; Cabisera Otso and Baculod overflow bridges in Ilagan City, San Pedro and Manglad overflow bridges in Maddela, Quirino, and other secondary bridges.

“Immediately after the typhoon, our PDRRMOs (Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices) and MDRRMOs (Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices) have conducted their initial assessment on the damages. They conducted needs assessment in their areas,” OCD-2 Reg. Dir. Harold Cabreros reported.

Assessments conducted by local government units on the extent of damage are still ongoing. Latest data show that 13 towns and 36 barangays, and 457 families composed of 1,576 individuals have been affected. At least 25 evacuation centers are open with 295 families or 935 individuals.

Meanwhile, the scheduled discharge of water from Magat Dam on Wednesday afternoon has been moved to Thursday afternoon after the downpour weakened. – Report from Oliver Baccay/PIA-Region 2
