President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has given the go signal to investigate the reported physical abuse committed by Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro to her staff.
“Pinayagan na po ng Presidente ang DFA na imbestigahan ang dating Philippine Ambassador to Brazil na si Marichu Mauro (the President has given the DFA the approval to investigate former Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro),”
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced.
“Bilang isang presidential appointee, kinakailangan ang pagpayag ng Presidente bago maimbestigahan ang dating Philippine ambassador to Brazil (as a presidential appointee, the President’s approval is a requirement prior to a probe),” Roque added.
Mauro has already been recalled earlier this week over the allegation of maltreatment to her household staff, following the release of footages of the act. The recall “will enable the DFA to conduct an expedient and thorough investigation into the incidents of physical abuse perpetrated by her against her household staff,” according to DFA Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.
“The DFA will not tolerate in any way whatsoever actions by any of its ranking officers or staff that go against our primary mandate, which is the promotion and protection of the welfare of all overseas Filipinos,” the country’s top diplomat added. – PTV News Online
