Areas in Lopez, Quezon still flooded

Some areas in Lopez, Quezon remain flooded two days after super Typhoon Rolly’s landfall in the province.

Huge portions of roads and adjacent fields near the boundary of Calauag are still submerged due to continuous downpour brought about by recent typhoons Ofel, Pepito, Quinta, and Rolly.

Authorities have warned residents to take extra precautions in similar areas which are considered catch basins of the province. The Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) assured that the situation and the needs of affected residents are being addressed.

Eleven towns have also experienced power outage due to the recent disasters, including Gen. Luna, Alabat, Buenavista, and Pitogo,

“Nagkataon na itong Quinta saka si Rolly ay halos magkasabay lamang. Kaya kadedeklara pa lang natin ng State of Calamity for the victims of typhoon Quinta noong bago pumasok si Rolly (Rolly almost coincided with Quinta. The State of Calamity has just been declared for victims of typhoon Quinta when Rolly hit),” Quezon PDRRMO Chief Melchor Avenilla stated.

“So magsasabay na po ito, iyong programa na ipapamahagi ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan para sa mga biktima ni Bagyong Quinta, ay malamang mabibigyan na rin po ng ayuda iyong iba naming kababayan na biktima ni Typhoon Rolly (The program of distribution will be done at the same time by the provincial government for the relief operations of the victims of typhoons Quinta and Rolly),” Avenilla concluded. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
