No heavy damage left by TY Siony in Batanes – PDRRMC

Rough seas and strong winds were experienced in coastal areas on Friday morning due to severe tropical storm Siony. The situation began midnight when Batanes was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.

Winds intensified at 8 a.m. when the center of the typhoon was nearest Batanes, but eventually weakened come noontime. Light to moderate rains were brought by the severe tropical storm.

Waves remain strong at the port but sea conditions have already eased as the center of Siony passed over Batanes on Friday afternoon. However, authorities warned residents of the province on the possibility of a storm surge.

The initial report of the Batanes Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) recorded no severe damage in Batanes due to Typhoon Siony. Assessment will continue on Saturday. – Rodelyn Amboy/Radyo Pilipinas, PTV Balita Ngayon
