PNP Chief defends cops in Rizal hospital shooting incident, PNP to probe incident

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Camilo Cascolan defended the police officers guarding a victim killed in a hospital shooting incident in Angono, Rizal.

PNP Chief PGen. Cascolan insisted that the officers must not be blamed for the gunman’s escape since they did not have any suspicions that the life of the victim, Vincent Adia, was still in danger.

According to the Angono Police Chief, the officers on-duty left the hospital to pick-up Adia’s family because the victim was supposed to be transferred to another facility.

However, the PNP Chief assured that there will be an investigation regarding the accusations of police involvement on the matter and consider possible charges that may be filed against them.

“Actually, there was really no threat anymore. Siguro tama rin ‘yung ginawa ng ating mga kapulisan (maybe what our police did was right) but we will have to investigate bakit hindi sila nag-iwan (but we will have to investigate why they did not leave one officer behind). They were thinking already that everything was done (with) best efforts.”

The Rizal Provincial Police is now investigating the incident. – Report from Bea Bernardo
