Power outage affects almost 4 million Meralco clients

3,803,810 customers of Meralco have been affected by power outages initiated as a safety measure amid the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses since last night. The figure is equivalent to more than half of the total number or 56%.of Meralco clients.
While electricity was slowly restored in areas not affected by floods, Meralco ‘s head of Corporate Communication Joe Zaldarriaga disclosed that 2.5 million people are still currently experiencing brownouts.
Zaldarriaga promised that the electric company will do everything it can to restore power except in flooded places.
“Kailangan muna naming hintayin na humupa ang tubig baha bago kami makapagtrabaho. Hindi po kami pwede mag-restore ng kuryente hangga’t baha ‘yung lugar. Lubha pong napakadelikado (ito) hindi lamang po sa aming mga line personnel kundi higit sa lahat sa aming mga customers (We need to wait for the water to subside before we can work. We cannot restore electricity when a place is flooded. That will be too dangerous not only for our line personnel but most of all for our customers,” the Meralco spokesperson explained.
Power consumers are encouraged to report their concerns through the Meralco Facebook Messenger or Twitter accounts or through the following contact numbers: 09209716211 (SMART) 09175516211 (GLOBE) 09257716211 (SUN) -Report from Catleya Antonio
