Evidence intensifies vs. Tarlac double murder suspect

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is strengthening evidence against Police Staff Sergeant Jonel Nuezca who was involved in the brutal killing of a mother and her son in Tarlac.

PNP Chief Gen. Debold Sinas said they are now holding the testimony of two eyewitnesses in the incident, including the affidavit of the 16-year-old who received the footage from the 12-year old who recorded the shooting incident and the consent of their parents.

“Yung video, nasa batas po ‘yan, hindi magiging ebidensya kung hindi po natin makita kung sino po ang kumuha (It is stated in the law that the video cannot be used as evidence if we do not see who took it),” PGen. Sinas explained.

“Dapat mayroon pong mag-testify na siya ‘yung may-ari ng video, ‘nung cellphone, or ‘nung machine na siya ang kumuha (Someone should testify that they own the video, the cellphone, or the machine, that he recorded it),” Sinas continued.

The Cybercrime Division of the PNP is now holding the original copy of the video, according to the Chief of Police.

Meanwhile, Sinas clarified his recent advice on recording videos of such situations, saying that he is not prohibiting the act of taking videos. He is merely telling them to be careful.

“Hindi ko sinabi na bawal mag-document. Social responsibility nating lahat iyon. Ang panawagan ko lang ay sana mag-ingat kayo (I did not say it is prohibited. That is our social responsibility. My appeal to them is to be careful),” he elucidated. – Report from Patrick de Jesus
