Amid reports of the impending increase in premiums of the Social Security System (SSS) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), some quarters have expressed concern for workers who may be unable to pay due to the effects of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on their livelihood.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte himself is prepared to sign a law delaying the increase of the PhilHealth premium as confirmed by Senate Committee on Health Chairman Senator Bong Go.
According to Senator Go, President Duterte is also ready to sign a law providing additional funds for PhilHealth amidst the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
He added that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is looking into adding more funds for the agency to avoid impediments of its service once the increase is suspended. It can be recalled that PhilHealth insisted on increasing its monthly payment from 3%. to 3.5% – PTV News
