72-hour ultimatum given to suspects in Dacera case

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has given a three-day ultimatum to individuals considered as suspects in the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera to surrender and cooperate with authorities.

The PNP is set to issue a subpoena to those allegedly involved in the case.

Republic Act No. 10973 signed by President Duterte in 2018 authorizes the chief of the PNP and the director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to issue a subpoena.

“Thats why binigyan ko ng time because after hindi sila magpakita (That is why I gave them time because if they do not show up), the CIDG will be filling direct contempt,” PNP Chief Debold Sinas stated.

Sinas said they have seen other personalities in the CCTV footages. The police has already received surrender feelers, but it did not disclose the number of individuals willing to do so.

The PNP also stood by its claim that the victim was abused despite the report on the medico-legal examination stating that she died of aneurysm. Sinas said aneurysm was the medical condition of the victim when she died.

“Yung babae may bruises siya na ganito. May confirmed lacerations tapos may fluid sa private parts niya… Based on elements ng rape, present po lahat ng factors na iyon (She had bruises and confirmed lacerations and fluid in her private parts… Based on the elements of rape, such factors were present),” Sinas stated.

No further details were given on the rape aspect of the case due to confidentiality, but the PNP is standing its earlier statement that the case is a rape-slay. Sinas clarified that the medico-legal report being circulated in social media did not come from the PNP. – Report from Bea Bernardo
