Cebu City records 200 plus COVID-19 cases in 10 days

The City of Cebu now has almost 400 active cases of COVID-19 after recording more than 200 cases within 10 days.

As of January 11 morning, the city has 370 actives cases out of its 11,130 tally of confirmed cases. A total of 10,067 have already recovered while 693 have succumbed to the disease.

The Department of Health (DOH) explained that the increase in cases is an effect of the holiday celebration last December.

Authorities are now alarmed over the possible surge due to the gathering of devotees for the Fiesta Señor 2021.

Meanwhile, the city government is set to allocate ₱500 million for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines. It has already coordinated with Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on the matter.

“Iniligay ko sa ating (what I stated in our) annual investment plan is ₱500 million. In my conversation with Secretary Galvez, it would be Cebu City as one of the priorities,” Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella stated.

Authorities are reminding the public to comply with protocols amid the spike in the number of cases. – Report from John Aroa/PTV Cebu
