Fewer vehicles seen along EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has observed a lighter volume of vehicles along EDSA which has been linked to the partial operations of Skyway Stage 3 last December.

MMDA EDSA Traffic Management Chief Col. Edison Bong Nebrija said they were wondering about the fewer number of vehicles along EDSA and along Commonwealth.

“Even in Commonwealth, makikita niyo nag-zipper lane pa tayo, but really only a few, dahil mabilis pa rin yung Commonwealth. Mabilis pa rin yung buhos natin dito (Even in Commonwealth, we could see a zipper lane, but really only a few, because the flow of traffic is still smooth),” Nebrija stated.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), there are currently 60,000 to 70,000 vehicles using the skyway daily since its opening on December 28. This is above its initially expected 50,000 vehicle volume.

Authorities have conducted a final inspection of the Skyway Stage 3 which will remain closed starting 10 p.m. today until 5 a.m. of January 15 to ensure its safety “for full opening of all the lanes.”

The nine entrance and exit points that have not yet been opened are targeted to be used by motorists in the coming months.
