PDEA nabs marijuana courier in Quezon

POLILLO, Quezon — Joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Polillo municipal police arrested on Tuesday noon a drug courier in Barangay Anawan Port here for carrying nine zip-locked plastics of suspected dried marijuana.

PDEA-Quezon provincial director Cristopher P. Viaña disclosed that his team of anti-hard drug operatives and the police were conducting routine inspection at the Anawan Port when a confidential informant tipped them off about the suspected drug courier.

Viaña said law enforcers arrested suspect John David GunioEscala, 21, a Polillo resident and student in a Manila university, around 12:10 p.m. at the port on Tuesday.

Viaña said initial investigation revealed that the suspect was intercepted with the dried marijuana believed to be intended for clients and revelers for a big “Halloween party” in a nearby town.

Confiscated from the suspect were some 224 grams of marijuana with a street value of PHP 8,000.

Authorities are set to charge Escala in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.” (Gideon Belen/PNA)
