PRRD OKs extension of ‘no disconnection policy’ for life-liners

President Rodrigo R. Duterte approved the extension of the “no disconnection policy” for life-liners or low-income consumers.

According to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, the matter has been discussed in the 51st cabinet meeting Wednesday in Malacañang. President Duterte wants the life-liners to know that the government will not abandon them.

“Ang na-set ng ERC na life-liners, ‘yan po ‘yung mga kumokonsumo ng 100kwh and below. Ang instruction ni Pangulo, sa panahon ngayon na mayroon tayong pandemic ay walang puputulan na life-liner, kasi nga ang hirap na nga ng buhay. And based on the computation of DOE, kayang kaya naman. It’s doable. (The ERC has set it for life-liners, those who consume 100kWh and below. The President’s instruction is no lifeliner must be disconnected during the pandemic for these are hard times. And based on the computation of the DOE [Department of Energy], this can be done. It’s doable).”

Aside from this, the President also called on Congress to extend the lifeline rate for the marginalized power consumers. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
