Gov’t corruption probe in full swing

The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) investigation on massive corruption within the government is in full swing.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra disclosed on Friday that they have received 185 complaints from the public and various government agencies since the creation of the mega task force against corruption.

Out of 185, 166 were retained and 36 were addressed. Some of the cases are now with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for case build up.

Sec. Guevarra assured that they are thoroughly evaluating complaints, considering that there are instances where complaints are repeated.

The NBI has filed at least eight cases with the Office of the Ombudsman regarding anomalies within the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

Two of the cases are related to the Interim Reimbursement Mechanism (IRM) which amounts to ₱ 2.7 billion in the National Capital Region (NCR). More evidence are being gathered to determine the involvement of other personnel.

Meanwhile, the drug war panel of the DOJ has submitted its initial report to President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) was handed a copy of its initial finding and is yet to issue a comment.

“At the proper time, we will share our findings with the public, with the media. But we will also include actions that we intend to take arising from these findings,” Guevarra said. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
