PH loses ₱400B worth of potential revenue over COVID-19 pandemic

The Philippine government has lost ₱400 billion worth of potential revenue from international tourism in 2020 due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, the loss in domestic tourism has not yet been included in the said figures. The number of domestic tourists is normally larger than that of international visitors.

The DOT Chief initially admitted that the tourist arrivals in the country in 2020 dropped by 83.97% following the closure of borders due to the global health crisis. -PTV News
