Tons of live hogs from South Cotabato arrive

Around 28 tons of live hogs from South Cotabato arrived on Wednesday in Antipolo City to augment supply of pork in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The meat product has a farm gate price of ₱144 per kilogram and landed price of ₱180. Meat dealers said the price is already fair both to dealers and vendors to comply with the mandated ceiling of ₱270 to ₱300.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is providing transportation assistance to raisers for the shipment of hogs to cut prices of pork sold in markets.

A ₱21 support is given for each kilogram coming from Mindanao to NCR, ₱15 for those from Visayas, and ₱10 for those sourced from other Luzon areas.

The documents of the live hogs are evaluated before they are brought to the slaughterhouse to ensure that they are free from African Swine Fever.

The hogs are set to be butchered before early morning of Thursday and will undergo postmortem inspection. They are expected to be delivered to Murphy Market and Nepa Q Mart.- Report from Louisa Erispe
