DepEd plans to shorten summer vacation

The Department of Education (DepEd) is planning to shorten the summer vacation of the students to 2 weeks.

In a press briefing, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones disclosed that the length of the students’ vacation has an effect on their mental health.

A survey conducted by the education department showed that majority of the students want to go to school. It believes that the shortened vacation will greatly help in the transition to face-to-face classes.

However, several parents and students beg to differ.

“The thing is to make learning really relevant and hindi natin masyadong pahirapan ang bata sa pag-transition niya (The thing is to make learning really relevant and not burden the child in his/her transition [to face-to-face classes]).”

No final decision has been made by the DepEd on the matter as this will still undergo thorough consultation and study. Report from Louisa Erispe
