Ospital ng Makati health workers get first shot of COVID-19 vax

The Ospital ng Makati on Friday began vaccinating its frontline healthcare workers against COVID-19.

The hospital is expecting to inoculate 300 healthcare workers within the day with an allocation of 300 doses of CoronaVac, the vaccine developed by Sinovac of China. Due to the high demand of vaccines in the hospital with 390 registered individuals, the local government requested for additional 1,264 doses.

Officials guarantee that there are sufficient vaccines to cover medical workers of Makati. National Task Force Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon assured doses of AstraZeneca vaccines will be allocated to the city.

Health workers who have preregistered for Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines still have an option to be administered with AstraZeneca. However, those injected with the first dose of Sinovac vaccine can no longer shift to AstraZeneca vaccine.

The ceremonial vaccination was attended by Dizon, Health Assistant Secretary Maria Laxamana, Makati Mayor Abby Binay, and Ospital ng Makati Director Dr. Vergel P Binay who took the first jab in the medical facility.

Meanwhile, the distribution of AstraZeneca vaccine doses will begin tonight in Makati while the rollout is expected to commence on Monday. The health department is currently finalizing the recipient list of the said vaccine.
