The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has announced that it shortened its voter registration hours in view of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the country.
In a statement on Saturday, the poll body said that voter registration will now be conducted from 8AM to 3PM Mondays to Thursdays.
However, the COMELEC clarified that the issuance of voter’s certification will be until 5 pm.
The new schedule will be in effect from March 22 to April 24, 2021.
Previously, registration schedule was from 8AM to 5PM, Tuesdays to Saturdays.
Satellite Registration Suspended
The COMELEC also suspended satellite registration in barangay halls, day care centers, covered courts and other satellite offices until further notice.
Applicants will only be able to register at the Office of the Election Officer (OEO).
The poll body, meanwhile, moved their disinfection schedule to Fridays instead of Mondays.
But the OEO can adjust if the local government unit would set another day for disinfection.
The voter registration period for the 2022 national elections will end on September 30, 2021. – Kenneth Paciente
