Muntinlupa rep and LGU question BuCor wall construction

Bureau of Corrections personnel built a wall in the middle of the Insular Prison Road, Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.

However, Muntinlupa Congressman Ruffy Biazon said the construction of the wall is illegal because there was no proper coordination made between BuCor and concerned parties such as the Muntinlupa local government unit (LGU), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and National Housing Authority (NHA).

Rep. Biazon also mentioned that the wall disregards the safety and accessibility of residents who use the road for their needs. He also pointed out that the wall as a nuisance.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi contested the construction of the said wall as it hampers the residents’ access to basic services.

But the BuCor reasoned that the wall was built to protect inmates and personnel from the threat of acquiring COVID-19. It is also meant to lessen smuggling activities inside the detention facility. —Ken Bornilla
