Biazon pushes to demolish “illegal” wall in Muntinlupa

Muntinlupa City Rep. Ruffy Biazon formally asked the Department of Justice to remove the structures built to close Insular Prison Road in Muntinlupa City after the Bureau of Corrections constructed a wall “which practically closed the road and became non-passable.”

In a letter dated March 22, 2021 addressed to DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra, Rep. Biazon said it was done unilaterally “without proper coordination” from his office, the City Government of Muntinlupa, and to those primarily affected by the closure.

The lawmaker claimed that it was not coordinated with the National Housing Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

“The closure of this road, most especially at this time of a pandemic, is very inconsiderate of the plight of our constituents in Muntinlupa City,” Rep. Biazon complained.

“Such action also runs counter to inter-departmental courtesy that all government agencies must extend to each other,” he added.

Sec. Guevarra responded through a text message to PTV News that, “we have directed DG [Director General Gerald] Bantag yesterday to immediately submit an explanation. The DOJ will then act on Cong. Biazon’s letter accordingly.”

Rep. Biazon has already filed House Resolution No. 1666 seeking to investigate “the closure of Insular Prison Road.” – Daniel Manalastas
