The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) on Thursday announced the full utilization of its designated beds for COVID-19 patients.

According to its advisory, a “significant increase” has been recorded in the number of healthcare workers infected with COVID-19 in the last two weeks.

The NKTI said its emergency room personnel will continue to “acutely manage only renal emergency cases and post kidney transplant patients.” However, probable, suspected, and critical COVID-19 cases are requested to be referred to other health facilities.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that the utilization rate of ICU beds in the National Capital Region is at 74 percent, isolation beds at 66 percent, ward beds at 52 percent, and ventilators at 51 percent.

Currently, there are 99,891 active cases of COVID-19 in the country after the DOH logged a record-high of 8,773 new cases in one day.
