KWF now accepting entries for ‘Sanaysay ng Taon 2021’

The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) is now accepting entries for the “Sanaysay ng Taon 2021.”

The “Sanaysay ng Taon” is a yearly contest organized by the KWF that encourages the country’s essayists to submit their original works. The competition is open to everyone except KWF officials and their relatives.

This year’s topic is discussion about and research into the importance and role of language in shaping Philippine history and culture.

The essays must be original, unpublished works, written in Filipino and not translated from another language. They must also be at least 15 pages long but not more than 30 pages. The format of the works must comply with the guidelines stated in the “KWF Manwal sa Masino na Pagsulat.”

The deadline for submissions is on June 28.

The first placer will receive ₱30,000, a medal, a plaque, and be recognized as “Mananaysay ng Taon,” [Essayist of the Year]; the second placer will receive ₱20,000 and a certificate, while the third placer will receive ₱15,000 and a certificate.

The decision of the panel of judges is final and cannot be changed.

The KWF said anyone caught plagiarizing will have their prizes cancelled and be banned from participating in KWF competitions.

  1.     The entry should be in the .doc format, Arial 12 pt., single space, A4 size with a one-inch margin on all sides;
  2.       Contestants must submit their works under a pen name that gives no hint of their real name;
  3.       Along with the essay, the following should be submitted in pdf format:
    • Notarized affidavit that that the work is original;
    • Entry form;
    • Curriculum vitae and/or bionote;
    • A 2×2 picture of the contestant in .jpeg format; and
    • A copy of a valid ID.
