The Department of Transportation (DOTr) released a statement that it will not implement any fare hike nor restrictions or changes in public transport capacity and operations now that the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus bubble has been placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
The department said that the public transport modes available during the general enhanced community quarantine (GCQ) will also be available under MECQ. However, it emphasized that only authorized persons outside of residence (APORs) are allowed to ride public utility vehicles (PUVs).
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade reminded the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to ensure the opening of additional routes for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in Metro Manila, open more routes for provincial buses in accordance with the requirements and guidelines of the concerned local government units (LGUs), and ensure the continuous implementation of the Free Ride for Health workers and Medical Frontliners Program nationwide, as well as the Free Rides for APORs under the DOTr’s Service Contracting program.
He also told the LTFRB to make sure that fare rates will not be increased.
The DOTr Chief also ordered all transportation sectors to guarantee the strict implementation of public health and safety protocols in all public transportation.
Meanwhile, the LTFRB is set to open 60 more routes for traditional PUJs starting April 13, and 190 additional routes for provincial public utility buses on April 15
