MWSS orders extension of ‘no disconnection policy’

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) ordered the Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to extend its “no disconnection policy” until the end of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) period.

In a statement on Monday (April 12), the agency said they want to ensure that all customers have adequate water supply for their health and sanitation requirements amid the pandemic. The agency also ordered the uninterrupted, 24-hour supply of water in the two concessionaire’s service areas.

Manila Water is tasked to supply water to Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, parts of Quezon City and Manila, Angono, and some parts of Rizal, while Maynilad supplies to Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon, Valenzuela, and some parts of Cavite.

“Moreover, the MWSS RO [Regulatory Office] requests for the continued cooperation and assistance of concerned local government units, as the concessionaires conduct their meter reading and billing activities during the MECQ,” the statement concluded.

The MWSS initially ordered the implementation of the ‘no disconnection policy’ on March 29, in light of the government’s declaration of enhanced community quarantine in NCR Plus following the spike of COVID-19 cases.
