PGH Covid-19 beds 90% occupied

The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Wednesday (April 21) reported that the occupancy rate of its Covid-19 beds has reached 90 percent.

According to PGH Spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario, 220 out of 250 Covid-19 beds are currently occupied, while intensive care units (ICU) and emergency rooms for the disease are full.

Del Rosario reported in the Laging Handa public briefing that around five patients die every day at the hospital due to Covid-19.

Meanwhile, he said the reimplementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus area slightly helped to reduce the number of patients, which were previously around 240 per day.

“Ito pong nakaraang two weeks medyo slowly bumaba, so ngayon nasa 220 ang aming average [The number of patients slowly declined the past two weeks. The average now is 220],” he said.

Moreover, the hospital assured that it has enough personnel to attend to Covid-19 patients, and that 80 percent or around 6,000 of its workers have been vaccinated.

In order to expedite the rollout of vaccines, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) continues to expand the Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS) Immunization Registry that was initially launched in San Juan City.

“We need to be able to vaccinate in less than five minutes, so with the information system, hindi magtatagal from registration to screening to vaccination [it will not take tong from registration to screening to vaccination],” DICT Undersecretary Manny Caintic said. – Report from Patrick de Jesus/AG-jlo
