The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has refused to fund the competition and training camp of the Philippine boxing team in India next month.
In the recent board meeting of the PSC led by Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez, the ₱2.7 million financial assistance requested by the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) was turned down. This was supposed to be used by the squad to join the Asian Boxing Championships from May 21 to 31 in New Delhi, India.
The decision was based on the worsening situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in New Delhi where around 200,000 people are confirmed positive daily.
Instead, the PSC Board approved the request of the ABAP to extend the training camp in Thailand for another month.
