DOH eyes homecare kit distribution for asymptomatic, mild covid-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) plans to distribute homecare kits for asymptomatic individuals and those experiencing mild symptoms of covid-19.

Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a briefing Monday (April 26) that the kits are the government’s response to aid covid-19 patients who are recovering at home.

She said the homecare kits include vitamins, paracetamol, a thermometer, pulse oximeter, masks, a face shield, alcohol or sanitizer, disinfection supplies, and cleaning kit materials. Also included in the kits are instructions on how to monitor the patients’ condition and when to bring them to a hospital.

“This is part of a complete process, not just the kit, but also there would be a system and a process where they will be guided on how to use these kits. They will also be navigated on what facility they would need at that certain status of their illness.”

Vergeire said developing the homecare kits will need a “financing mechanism.” The department is currently “negotiating” with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on the matter. The two agencies will discuss the package further on Friday (April 30).
