India has recorded over 300,000 daily covid-19 cases within a few days, while a total of 195,123 deaths were logged by the World Health Organization (WHO) as of Monday (April 26).
In a Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday (April 27), Philippine Ambassador to India Ramon Bagatsing Jr. said two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have passed away due to the disease while 20 Filipinos are infected by the virus and are currently confined and isolated.
“Itong dalawang nawala, nasawi, napakabilis eh. [April] 23 lang nabalitaan naming [tapos] 26, wala na. So, it’s really very fast. Parang traydor talaga itong virus na ito.”
Bagatsing assured that the embassy is providing assistance to the Filipinos in India, especially to those infected by the virus.
He also said they will leave the decision of implementing a travel ban to and from India to the experts in the Philippines. He added that there are also other countries that have imposed a temporary travel ban on India due to the surge of covid-19 cases there.
