The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on April 29 said it has recommended to the national government the opening of more businesses during the extended implementation of modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
This will cover the personal care services sector such as salons and barbershops, and indoor dine-in which will be limited to 10% capacity.
The DTI noted that 1.5 million jobs were lost in the Greater Manila Area due to the reimplementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). At least 500,000 were able to return to work when the classification was de-escalated to modified ECQ.
“We will have 400,000 doon sa personal care [services], and then another siguro 100,000 sa restaurants, na madadagdag doon sa dine-in,” DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said in the Laging Handa Public Briefing.
“Sana para ‘yung one million natin na natitira na nawala o displaced worker, makabalik na kahit kalahati lang ‘nun,” Castelo added.
Malacañang said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases will announce within the week the additional businesses which will be allowed to operate starting May. – Report from Patrick de Jesus/AG-jlo
