Mandatory vaccination para sa helpers sa Hong Kong, ipinagpaliban

Inihayag ng Pamahalaan ng Hong Kong ngayong araw (Mayo 4) na ipagpapaliban muna nila ang pagpapatupad ng mandatory vaccination para sa mga foreign domestic helpers.

Ayon kay Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, makikipag-ugnayan muna sila sa mga konsulado ng mga bansang pinanggagalingan ng domestic helpers hinggil sa panukala.

“The government, as a decision maker, will also need to weigh this with the primary objective of safeguarding public health,” pahayag ni Lam.

“There is no discrimination on the basis of race. In fact, even for foreign domestic helpers, this is a protection measure and it also offers protection to the families with whom these helpers reside,” dagdag niya.

Nagpasalamat si Raly Tejada, Consul General ng Pilipinas sa Hong Kong, para sa desisyong ito. Aniya, patuloy ang kanilang paghihikayat sa mga Pilipino na magpabakuna sa libreng vaccination program ng Hong Kong.

“We stand ready to work and engage with the HK Government and other concerned Consulates General in constructive dialogue on this important issue.  In the meantime, the PCG [Philippine Consulate General] will continue to encourage our nationals to avail of HK’s free and voluntary vaccination program,” ani Tejada.

Nitong Biyernes (Abril 30), nagpahayag ang Hong Kong ng plano nitong gawing mandatory ang pagbabakuna sa mga dayuhang domestic helpers kontra COVID-19.

Una na rin itong pinalagan ng mga Pinoy at mismong ng Konsulado ng Pilipinas sa naturang bansa.

We will try to convince the HK Government to keep vaccination voluntary at huwag gawing kondisyon para makapagtrabaho sa HK. At kung itutuloy nila, dapat patas at i-apply din sa lahat ng foreign workers na kahalintulad ng kalagayan ng ating mga domestic workers,” giit ni Tejada.

Umaasa naman ang Malacañang na igagalang ng ibang bansa ang karapatan ng bawat tao batay sa equal protection clause, at alinsunod sa International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. – Ulat ni Naomi Tiburcio/AG-jlo
