FDA, inaprubahan ang EUA ng bakunang Moderna

Inaprubahan ngayong araw ng Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ang emergency use authorization (EUA) para sa bakunang Moderna.

“It has been decided that all conditions for an EUA are present and that the benefit of using the vaccine outweighs the known and potential risks,” ani FDA Director-General Eric Domingo. 

Ang bakuna ng Moderna ang ikapitong nabigyan ng EUA sa bansa, kasama ang bakuna ng Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Johnson & Johnson, at Bharat Biotech.

Ang bakuna ng Moderna ay gawa sa teknolohiyang messenger RNA o MRNA na kayang utusan ang katawan na gumawa ng maraming spike protein na tatapatan ng antibodies.

May dalawang dose ito na ituturok sa pagitan ng 28 araw, at maaaring ibigay sa mga edad 18 pataas. Kailangang nakatago ang bakuna sa malamig na temperatura. 

“Store frozen [at] -25 to -15 [degrees Celsius]. Pwede mo siyang ma-store sa normal na 2 to 8 [degrees] protected from light for just 30 days, pero ang normal storage requirement niya is really -25 to -15,” paliwanag ni Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire. 

May efficacy rate itong 94.1% na maiwasan ang sintomas ng COVID-19, habang 100% naman itong mabisa upang maiwasan ang moderate to severe COVID-19.

Kabilang naman sa mga side effects nito ang pamamaga sa injection site, lagnat, sakit ng ulo, fatigue, pagsusuka, at panginginig.

Mga 20 milyong doses ng bakunang Moderna ang binili ng Pilipinas, kung saan 13 milyon ay para sa gobyerno at 7 milyon ang para sa pribadong sektor.

“Supposed to be this May, posible ngang magkaroon ng problema doon sa U.S. at nakita natin nagkaroon ng problema sa India. Nagkaroon tayo ng tinatawag na delay. So ang aming expectation, magkakaroon tayo ng more or less 200,000 this coming June,” saad ni vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. – Ulat ni Mark Fetalco/AG-jlo
