Gov’t updates protocols for inbound passengers, quarantine classification

Malacañang announced on Friday afternoon (May 7) that all inbound passengers must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, with the first 10 days spent in a quarantine facility.

Based on Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Resolution No. 114, the passengers are required to complete their facility-based 10-day quarantine regardless of the result of their RT-PCR test taken on the seventh day upon arrival.

“Inatasan po ang Department of Health, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Labor and Employment, ang Bureau of Quarantine, [at] ang Overseas Workers Welfare Administration na maglabas ng advisories ukol po sa current testing and quarantine protocols,” IATF and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

“The DOTr shall ascertain that swabbing will be done at exactly the seventh day and results delivered on the ninth day.  Day of release from the quarantine facility shall be standardized on the tenth day,” Roque said in a statement.

“Swabbers, on the other hand, shall continue the practice of double swabbing on the seventh day in case necessary for whole genome sequencing,” he added.

In line with this, the Department of Tourism was directed to lead the establishment of the “One Hotel Command” communication and command center to respond to the concerns of individuals undergoing quarantine.

Meanwhile, the national government approved Zamboanga City’s request to shift its quarantine classification to modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), and Tacloban City’s request to be placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

Roque also said that individuals aged 15 to 17 years old and those over 65 years old are allowed to leave their homes to register for the Philippine Identification System.

The IATF has also permitted several requests related to sports, such as the no-audience set-up conduct of horse-racing activities in areas under MECQ.

The DOT Guidelines on Point-to-Point Air Travel for Leisure Purposes from the NCR Plus Areas were also approved and adopted. – Report from Mela Lesmoras/AG-jlo
