PDEA-11 to burn P2-M illegal drugs

DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Davao Region will burn some P2 million worth of illegal drugs as one of the highlights of the National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week this month.

PDEA 11 officer-in-charge Naravy Duquiatan said the burning of the confiscated and surrendered illegal drugs will take place on the third week of November.

“These confiscated and surrendered illegal drugs that will be burned already have court orders,” Duquiatan said.

These are the methamphetamine hydrochloride known as shabu and dried marijuana which were used as pieces of evidence in court and already been decided by all drug courts in the region to be disposed.

She said the burning will also include the expired medicines surrendered to their office by pharmacies.

“So far, we don’t have the exact date yet, but we will try our best to burn these within this month,” he said.

Duquiatan said there will be two simultaneous burning activities in the region, one in Davao City and the other in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

Aside from the burning activity, other activities are the poster making contests for grade school and high school, outreach program, trainers training, series of lectures about the effects of illegal drugs and drug test in the whole region.

This year’s theme for the National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control week is “Makinig Muna. Ang pakikinig sa mga kabataan ay daan upang tulungan silang lumaki ng malusog at ligtas (Listen First. Listening to our young generation is a way to help them grow safe and healthy).” (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
