The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported on Wednesday (June 9) that almost 200,000 workers have been jobless during the first five months of 2021 due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on businesses.
Based on the department’s job displacement monitoring report, 191,117 employees were removed from their jobs in 6,602 establishments from January to May.
The report also showed that 91% or 5,714 establishments have reduced their workforce while 9% or 888 businesses have permanently shut down.
The NCR has the highest number of displaced workers at 114,178, followed by Region VII with 20,632 displaced workers.
