Gatchalian looks into preparedness of schools for next academic year

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is currently looking into the preparedness of schools for the next school year amid the ongoing pandemic and has urged the Senate to investigate on said preparedness.

According to the senator, who is also the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Education, there is a need to know if the online learning system was effective this school year as well as the problems encountered when implementing said system.

Gatchalian said that it is important to learn from the mistakes of implementation of distance learning in order for teaching to become effective for the next school year.

Among the problems encountered was the lack of gadgets, students’ access to the internet, and the quality of teaching modules.

In filing Senate Resolution No. 739, Gatchalian said that it was vital to assess if basic education institutions are able to deliver quality education for the next academic year, whether through face-to-face classes, distance learning, or other alternative methods.

“After a year of conducting distance learning where we faced serious challenges, it’s important to know if we can use what we learned to ensure the most effective way we can continue giving education to our youth,” Gatchalian said. PTV News/PG-rir
